Patrick Karanja

Chairman, Board of Directors

Patrick Karanja is the Chairman of the Board of Directors. He has wealth of experience in Finance , Insurance ,Corporate Governance, Strategic Management and Regulatory matters. He has over thirty years experience from both the public and private sectors which have been of great value add to the Bank. Patrick worked in various private sector firms in Kenya and outside the country amongst them Haco Industries, Toyota Kenya and Castle Breweries. In the Public sector he was a consultant in the establishment of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA). He is currently the CEO of Kamp Insurance Agency, Captain of Thika Greens Golf Resort & a founding Board member of Kigumo Girls Secondary School. He engages in tea and dairy farming in Murang’a County. His Academic and Professional qualifications are Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from University of Nairobi, CPA (K), CPS (K) & Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Based Information Systems from University of Sunderland. The Bank draws leadership & wisdom from his experience and professional backgrounds.

Eng. Peter M. Kanyugi
Chairman, Special Committee

Eng. Kanyugi is the Chairman of the Bank’s Special Board Committee that looks at emerging issues relating to the Microfinance Sector and sits in the Bank’s Credit as well as Finance, Administration and Strategy Committees.
He previously chaired the Bank’s Ad Hoc Project Committee that oversight the renovation of the place of business before licensing. Eng. Kanyugi is the Chairman of the Bank’s Promoter (Akuria Investments PLC), an investment company in real estate across Muranga and Nairobi Counties. Besides spearheading the Promoter’s investments, he is a shrewd businessman in real estate, construction, and agriculture sectors. A seasoned tea and dairy farmer who has previously served as Chairman of Makomboki Tea Factory and a member of the Board of Gacharage Tea Factory, invaluable experiences that he brought with him during the research and development of our flagship products. He holds a BSC in Civil Engineering from University of Nairobi and several management courses.

Lydia Kibaara
Executive Director/C.E.O

Lydia is the torch bearer of the Bank’s vision. As the founder Chief Executive Officer, she was instrumental in the MFB’s set-up including capital raising, development of strategic and business plans and staff recruitment. She brought with her a wealth of experience from the Microfinance industry having served as the founder C.E.O. of Remu Microfinance Bank (Now KEY MFB) licensed in 2010 and the commercial banking sector having worked with Barclays Bank Plc in various capacities for a period spanning over 15 years. Ms Kibaara served as a board member of Association of Microfinance Institutions (AMFI) between 2012 and 2015 during which time the association spearheaded the first East African Regional Microfinance Summit in Nairobi and amendment of the Microfinance Regulations, 2013. Lydia holds a Masters Degree in Sociology (Community Development & Rural Sociology), UON and an Executive MBA from JKUAT.

Margaret Makanga
Chairman, Ad Hoc MIS Committee

Mrs Makanga is a member of the Board Audit & Risk Committee, and also chairs of an Ad Hoc Committee on ICT that has been mandated to deliver the ICT infrastructure for efficient delivery of service and Cyber Crime risk mitigation policy. She is an ICT specialist and Strategic Management consultant. She has worked as a business manager and trainer in the private sector for many years and handled various organizational functions. She has extensive experience working within multicultural and multidisciplinary environments from her time living outside Kenya. She holds an MBA (Strategic Management) from Daystar University as well as an Associate Degree in Information Technology from Lansing Community College, and is a full member of the Kenya Institute of Management.

Joseph M. Mahinda
Member Credit Committee

Mr. Mahinda is a member of the Credit Committee and which was instrumental in the development of credit products, lending policy and credit administration procedures and oversights credit portfolio management. Mr. Mahinda is a shrewd businessman in the hospitality, real estate and agribusiness sectors spread across Nairobi and Nakuru Counties. His background in quality control and management within the private sector is a great value add to the committee’s oversight role on credit product development and portfolio management. Mr. Mahinda holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from University of Nairobi and several management courses.

Patrick Rono
Member, Audit & Risk Committee

Mr. Rono is a member of the Board Audit & Risk Committee and also sits in the Ad hoc ICT Committee put in place to oversight implementation of ICT infrastructure and Cyber Crime risk mitigation policy. Mr. Rono is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a seasoned Banker. He brought with him wealth of experience on compliance, legal and regulatory requirements from his practice as Managing Partner, Patrick Rono & Co. Advocates and KCB Bank, where he worked for over 20 years in various managerial positions including Head of Operations and Operational System Re-engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and Bachelor of Arts both from Nairobi University.

Samuel Muhia
Business Dev. & Operations Manager

Samuel has vast experience in banking operations and business development from K-Rep Bank spanning over 12 years, where he worked in various capacities including Microfinance and Agricultural lending and Branch Management. He holds a Masters Degree in Sociology (Enterprise Development) from University of Nairobi (UoN) and a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Economics and Business Studies) from Kenyatta University.

Carolyne Ngeru
ICT Manager

Carolyne is an ICT guru with a wealth of knowledge and hands on Information Technology and Banking having gained most of her experience spanning over 8 years at various financial institutions including Springboard Capital. Carolyne holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT).
